Dubbed a "Cartoon Cryptozoologist" by Cinebeasts way back in the 2010, Tommy José is just as much an ancient cartoon exhibitor as he is a historian and archivist.
Through nearly 200 events since 2009, Tommy has been sharing his personal film archive of early and rare animated films with the general public. New York City audiences are regularly treated to otherwise rare opportunities to see generally unavailable and previously 'lost' films projected in real 16mm archival prints, as well as in HD DCPs made from rare 16mm, 28mm, and 35mm prints in the Stathes collection. Notable collaborators and host venues have included the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Animation Block Party and BAMcinematék, Animation Nights New York, Bayside Historical Society, Brooklyn Historical Society, City Lore, City Reliquary, the Fashion Institute of Technology, Launchpad, the New York Hall of Science, Nitehawk Cinema, Flicks in the Garden, Rubulad, Shoestring Press, The Slipper Room, Standard ToyKraft, Queens College, various local Queens Library branches, Vaudeville Park, the Voelker Orth Museum, and others. If you can't join us on Facebook, email Tommy through the Contact Us form so you can be added to the show mailing list—or to possibly book a screening! |
